Prerequisites **✔️**: - Feature available only for accounts using the **advanced warehouse**. - The **picking control option must be** **enabled**. - To enable these features, please contact Shippingbo support.   ### 3. How does serial number traceability work? This feature lets you track each product individually thanks to its serial number. This ensures precise stock management and optimal traceability. *Example: If you sell electronic devices, each unit can be tracked with a unique serial number, which makes it easier to follow up in the event of a return or warranty claim.*   ### 4. Enable serial number traceability #### 4.1 Enable the use of serial numbers via the product sheet 1. **Access the product sheet:** Go to the details of the product concerned, under the tab **Additional information**, and check the box **Use serial numbers**. ![](https://knowledge.shippingbo.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-May-05-2025-08-31-02-2479-AM.png?width=670&height=228&name=image-png-May-05-2025-08-31-02-2479-AM.png) 2. **Perform a new inventory:** For all products with the option enabled, you will need to perform a new inventory in order to assign a serial number to each unit. Each quantity must be assigned manually with a unique serial number. 3. **Viewing serial numbers** You can view the serial numbers in the location details under the tab **Serial numbers**, where you will also find the date and time they were added. 4\. **Exporting serial numbers:** You can export all your serial numbers via the menu **Configurations** → **File management** → **Exports** → **Location - Serial numbers**, then click on **Generate a new export:** **![](https://knowledge.shippingbo.com/hs-fs/hubfs/numserie-png.png?width=670&height=119&name=numserie-png.png)** *Example: After enabling traceability, you can export a file listing all the serial numbers present in each location.* #### 4.2 Enable the use of serial numbers via CSV import 1. You will need to enter them again when putting the product into stock in its location, and during its picking control.  These steps will allow the system to track the product with its serial number, from its entry into the warehouse until its exit. ### 5. Use serial number traceability #### Performing stock movements with serial numbers All movements must be performed **quantity by quantity**, each quantity being associated with a unique serial number. *Example: To add stock, you will need to scan or manually enter each serial number during the stock movement.* 💠 **Note**:  All stock movements involving serial numbers must be performed one by one. By default, the quantity to handle will be set to 1, and the serial number will be mandatory. 📢 **Warning**:  If the serial number traceability feature is disabled, all previously recorded serial numbers will be automatically deleted.   ### 6. Add a regular expression to control serial numbers 1. **Configure the regular expression:** Go to the menu **Configurations** → **Logistics** → **Serial numbers** and enter your regular expression (regex) in the field **Serial number format**. ![](https://knowledge.shippingbo.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-May-05-2025-08-46-47-9991-AM.png?width=670&height=220&name=image-png-May-05-2025-08-46-47-9991-AM.png) 2. **Test the regex** Enter your regular expression in the field **Serial number format** then check or uncheck the following options depending on how you want to use the regular expression: The serial number format must be specified via a regex. The possible regex rules can be found in the PDF document attached at the bottom of the page.  Any serial number format is possible:  \- Character type control (digits, letters, special characters) \- Length of serial numbers \- Number of fixed, minimum, maximum characters or between 2 values \- Combination: x digits, then y letters, then z digits, etc... You can easily test the generated regexes by going to the website  [https://regex101.com/](https://regex101.com/) 3. **Set the options for serial number usage** **![](https://knowledge.shippingbo.com/hs-fs/hubfs/bfb61c53-39bc-48a4-afe0-393721d1ceb7-png-1.png?width=670&height=410&name=bfb61c53-39bc-48a4-afe0-393721d1ceb7-png-1.png)** **✅ Check the serial number format when adding stock** When enabled, when adding stock, when the product's serial number is scanned on the PDA, Shippingbo will check that the scanned serial number matches the format specified in the Serial number format field. If it does not match, it will return an error. **![](https://knowledge.shippingbo.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Jan-02-2026-03-53-01-3939-PM.png?width=670&height=353&name=image-png-Jan-02-2026-03-53-01-3939-PM.png)**   **✅ Identify products directly by their serial number** When enabled, when receiving goods via an expected receipt, you can directly scan the product's serial number, rather than having to scan its SKU and then its serial number. 📢 **Warning:** This feature cannot be applied to a stock addition, but only to a receipt with an expected receipt where the field “serial\_number\_expected” is filled in.   **✅ Resolve serial number conflicts during inventory** When enabled, displays a pop-up on the PDA “Validate an unexpected product?” when the serial number that has just been scanned already exists in another location for the same product SKU.
