# HARDWARE RECOMMENDATION GUIDE

## This guide helps identify the recommended configuration, an essential step to get started with Shippingbo.

### **Benefits of the feature ✨**

- **Hardware adaptability:** Choose the ideal station setup (wired, wireless or retail) and the equipment according to your daily parcel volume.
- **Technical reliability:** Avoid configuration errors and connection losses by following the detailed network and software prerequisites precisely.
- **Operational clarity:** Validate your steps without omissions thanks to the complete summary checklist and the highlighted key points.

### 1. Mandatory prerequisites ✔️

Before any hardware or software installation, validating these prerequisites is **imperative**. A missing item is the main cause of configuration failures with support.

**⭐ Key point:**

The following list of prerequisites is intended for network IT experts. We recommend that you call on your in-house contact for this subject to check that your configuration is compliant.

#### 1.1 Network prerequisites

- **Fixed local IP:** Mandatory for network mode and PDA printing. The station hosting the server must have a fixed address (DHCP reservation or static IP).
- **Ethernet connection (RJ45):** Mandatory for all stations. A wired link is strongly recommended on the server station to ensure stability.
- **Warehouse Wi-Fi:** Mandatory for PDAs and Wi-Fi printers. Coverage must be stable and complete in all picking and shipping areas.
- **Ports 12212 & 12213 open:** Mandatory for the Multi-Print server. WebSocket protocols for communication between Shippingbo, the server and the devices.
- **Port 443 open (HTTPS):** Mandatory for all devices to allow local access to the Shippingbo API.
- **Visible network printers:** Mandatory for Wi-Fi / Ethernet printers. They must be detected on the local network with a test page printed successfully.
- **Firewall & Antivirus:** Mandatory for all devices. Explicit network access authorization for the Shippingbo application.

**⭐ Key point:**

A **fixed local IP**must be configured. Without a fixed local IP, the print server address changes with each DHCP renewal. All dependent PDAs and stations will instantly lose the connection. Request a DHCP reservation from your network administrator.

#### 1.2 Software prerequisites

- **Java:** Version 17 minimum required (essential to run the Multi-Print server).
- **Browser:** Google Chrome (recent stable version, version 147+ required), the only browser supported for Shippingbo.
- **Operating system:** Windows 10 / 11 Professional (Mac OS is not supported).
- **Print drivers:** Up-to-date official drivers from the manufacturer (Zebra, TSC, Dymo, etc.). *Note: If USB connection only, reinstall the drivers downloaded directly from the manufacturer's website.*
- **Hardware autonomy:** The printer must be physically connected and working before the intervention. Support is not meant to install your hardware or your drivers.

#### 1.3 Shippingbo prerequisites

- Active Shippingbo account.
- Menu access rights: `Configurations ➔ Logistics ➔ Multi-Printers`.

**✅ Summary checklist to validate at 100%:**

\[   \] Fixed local IP configured on the future server station.

\[   \] Internet access operational.

\[   \] Ports 12212, 12213 and 443 open on the local network.

\[   \] Java 17 environment installed.

\[   \] Google Chrome installed and set as default.

\[   \] Printers configured, detected and print test validated.

\[   \] Shippingbo Starter + Pack (or higher) active.

### 2. Installing the Multi-Print print server

Setting up an efficient shipping area is built around centralizing flows via Shippingbo's printing protocol. The **Multi-Print** server acts as an intelligent gateway between the Cloud application (OMS/WMS) and your local physical devices.

**Network mode:** Essential for pooling resources. It allows printers to be shared with other computers and print orders sent from picking mobile terminals (PDAs) to be received.

### 3. Step-by-step activation and installation

For the installation of the print server, the two dedicated tutorials describe each step:

- **[CONFIGURE THE MULTI-PRINT PRINT SERVER ON PC](https://knowledge.shippingbo.com/configurer-le-nouveau-serveur-dimpression-multi-print?hsLang=fr)**
- **[CONFIGURE THE MULTI-PRINT PRINT SERVER ON THE PDA](https://knowledge.shippingbo.com/configurer-le-nouveau-serveur-dimpression-multi-print-0?hsLang=fr)**

### 4. Choosing hardware according to your volume

Hardware is chosen according to daily parcel volume. Two typical profiles cover most situations.

#### 4.1 LOW VOLUME profile — Up to ~200 parcels / day

A low-volume shipping station only runs Chrome with Shippingbo and drives a label printer: the machine load is very light and does not justify a powerful configuration.

##### Basic PC and peripherals

##### **Label printing**

**Scanning and documents**

**⭐ Summary - Hardware recommendation for low volume:**

- PC 4 GB RAM + SSD
- 22" monitor
- Zebra ZD421D USB
- Zebra LS2208
- USB laser A4 printer

#### 4.2 HIGH VOLUME profile — From 200 to over 1,000 parcels / day

Smoothness and execution speed become critical. The system handles shared printers on the network, the simultaneous use of picking PDAs and multiple open sessions. The installation requires a Multi-Print server in **network mode** combined with a fixed IP.

**Basic PC and peripherals**

##### **Industrial Printing Equipment**

*→ Recommended accessories for high volume: peel-off kit (quick label retrieval without creasing) and cutter kit. Available for ZD421D/T and ZT111.*

##### **Scanning and mobility**

**⭐ Summary - Hardware recommendation for high volume:**

- i5 PC 16 GB NVMe + 2 monitors
- ZD421D Wi-Fi or ZT111
- Wireless DS2278
- TC22/TC27 PDA
- Charging stations
- UPS (uninterruptible power supply)
- Multi-Print server in network mode with fixed IP — shared printers and PDA printing.

### 5. Examples of shipping stations (Practical application)

#### 5.1 The Wired Station — Maximum simplicity

![](https://knowledge.shippingbo.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Jun-22-2026-01-48-39-6456-PM.png?width=670&height=435&name=image-png-Jun-22-2026-01-48-39-6456-PM.png)

- **Use:** Designed for low volumes handled by a single operator.
- **Architecture:** All peripherals (Zebra ZD421D, LS2208 barcode scanner, A4 printer) are connected directly via USB to a Celeron PC (4 GB RAM). The Multi-Print server is configured in **localhost**.
- **Advantages:** Zero dependence on Wi-Fi fluctuations, quick installation (\< 30 min), minimal acquisition costs.
- **Limits:** Impossible to share the printers with other colleagues or to link PDA terminals.

#### 5.2 The Wireless Station — Network, mobility and performance

### 6. Best practices and support resources

#### 6.1 Maintenance guide and logistics best practices

- Use **only Google Chrome** to browse the Shippingbo application ecosystem.
- Lighten the system load by limiting the number of open browser tabs and removing unnecessary third-party software.
- Make sure that the **automatic startup** option of the Multi-Print server is checked.
- Keep a register listing the IP addresses and the associated ports for each of your logistics sites or warehouses.
- Schedule weekly maintenance: clearing the Chrome browser cache, deleting Windows temporary files and a complete power restart of the machines.
- Organize a rotation of your PDA batteries on the charging stations.
- **Consumables preservation:** Store your thermal label rolls in dry, temperate places away from direct sunlight.
- Always run a full series of label printing tests after a software update before restarting production.
- *Logistics reminder:* Manufacturers (notably Zebra) often deliver the hardware bare. Remember to order your interface and charging cables separately.
