WHY CAN'T MY PDA SCAN RED QR CODES?
1. Context
Currently, TC22/27 PDAs can only scan certain types of QR codes. For example, red QR codes are not detected correctly by these devices.
2. Explanation
PDAs use a red scanning light. This affects how colors are perceived by the scanner:
- QR codes in black and white offer optimal contrast → they are read well
- QR codes or barcodes in red appear almost white to the scanner → they become difficult, or even impossible, to read
- Barcodes in orange also cause problems with the recommended PDAs
Indeed, scanners do not perceive colors the way the human eye does. For example:
- The color red is perceived as very light (close to white)
- The color green is perceived as darker
3. Best practices
Even though it is technically possible to generate codes in different colors, this increases the risk of reading errors.
✅ Solution:
We therefore strongly recommend using codes in black on a white background, to ensure reliable reading with PDAs.
